In the Classroom

  1. PK – grade 3 students
    Procedure:
Ask students to make a hypothesis on what they think and will happen when they put a piece of ivory soap in the microwave. Make the students think about what goes on in the microwave when they are making popcorn. Have them write down their hypothesis and explain the experiment and have them think about the difference between ivory and regular soap. When performing the experiment, make sure you cut the soap into small pieces. Have the students grab a piece of soap, put it on a plate, then put it in the microwave for 1-2 mins. Once it’s out of the microwave, have your students wait till the soap cools down before touching the soap. When the students are touching the soap have them write down if their hypothesis was right or wrong and how the ivory soap feels when it  out of the microwave. Have the students talk to one another about how they felt about this experiment and their conclusion.
