About

Have you ever wondered how items like caviar and boba poppers are made? Spherification is a process used to make “berry drops” or spheres from a flavored liquid to look like caviar and have a similar texture. This process is commonly seen when stuffing pitted olives with what appears to be a sliver of pimento but is in fact pimento juice- and thus reduces the cost- that’s inserted into the pitted olive and gelled by calcium that is already present in the olives. This experiment gives a view of the use of science outside of the laboratory as well as demonstrating the fact that not all discoveries are intended purely for for stern scientific use.
